"Space and time are interconnected; stars, planets, human and other lifeforms all create ripples in the cosmic pond."

A collection of recordings made in The Cosmic Pond - a disused reservoir at Allenheads Contemporary Arts, Northumberland, UK - during an artists residency in summer 2018.

Sounds of life in and around the pond were captured with stereo hydrophones, suspended to a depth of about three metres beneath Terraqueous II - a floating rig built to explore watery depths beyond human habitation and relay the soundscape to loudspeakers installed at the North Pennines Observatory.

This album is a sample of many hours of recordings taken over several weeks, best listened to in low light with time taken to immerse into the mesmerising soundscape of this magical freshwater habitat.

We've tried to identify most of the lifeforms heard. Water boatmen dominate of course (the loudest creatures on Earth in proportion to their size), but if we've misidentified or overlooked anything, please let us know.
